When Efe Raki launched its Sarı Zeybek Original, it made an immediate impact, marked by early awards and recognition. These successes signalled that the Efe Distillery — Turkey’s first private distillery following the end of the state monopoly — was on the right track. The Sarı Zeybek and Efe Raki brands quickly became the flagships of the distillery. With numerous stills and traditional copper alembics at their disposal, the distillery began producing a distinctive style of Raki. Sarı Zeybek Original, in particular, has steadily gained cult status and now comes in a proudly redesigned bottle, with its maturation period extended from three to six months.
Unlike typical Raki, which is made from dried grapes and aged in steel tanks, Efe Sari Zeybek Original is crafted using both dried and fresh grapes and is double distilled. The second distillation includes high-quality anise sourced from Tefenni in Burdur Province, a region renowned for its aromatic seeds. This unique process results in a Raki that is aged for six months in oak barrels, developing a buttery mouthfeel and complex aromas. Notably, since 2021, no additional sugar has been added, emphasizing the purity and depth of flavour that comes naturally from the ingredients and aging process.
The dedication to quality at the Efe Distillery is evident throughout the production of Sarı Zeybek Raki. Grapes from the Aegean region are carefully selected, and the anise is only introduced during the second distillation to preserve its refined character. The final product benefits from 90 days of barrel aging in specially selected oak, which contributes to its full-bodied and elegant taste. This commitment to craftsmanship has been recognized internationally, with Efe Sarı Zeybek Raki earning the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, further cementing its reputation as a premium, world-class spirit.
