Crafted by the Rouvalis estate high in the slopes of Aigialeia in northern Peloponnese, the “Tsigello” is a distinctive dry-red interpretation of the indigenous clone of Mavrodaphne (though the label uses “Tsigello” due to regional naming conventions). Grown at altitudes of 500-650 m on steep, sea-facing terraces, the wine is produced from 100 % Tsigello grapes, vinified with cold maceration, raised partly in clay amphorae and old French barrels to preserve purity and texture.
On the eye the wine shows a deep ruby with violet tints; the nose opens to black cherry, blackberry, wild herbs (bay leaf, rosemary) and a hint of eucalyptus, dark chocolate and pepper. The palate is generous yet elegant — red and black fruits wrapped in fine tannins, lively acidity and a mineral-toned finish marked by Mediterranean herb and subtle savoury spice. Serve at 16-18 °C alongside grilled lamb, game birds, roasted aubergine dishes or mature goat’s cheese.
