From the sun-drenched vineyards of Dafnes in Crete, this “Helios” 2010 by Douloufakis offers a sumptuous and complex interpretation of the indigenous Liâtiko grape, crafted as a sweet red with outstanding ageing potential. After harvest the grapes are partially sun-dried for about seven days to concentrate flavours, followed by classic vinification and extended maturation in used French oak barrels for around ten years. The wine glows amber-ruby with glints of mahogany, releasing evocative aromas of dried plum, fig and black cherry, layered with mocha coffee, cocoa powder and a whisper of spice.
On the palate it is richly textured yet balanced by fresh acidity, with lingering notes of toffee, leather and warm Mediterranean herbs, concluding with an elegant, refined finish. Serve lightly chilled at 10-12 °C alongside dark chocolate desserts, dried fruit tarts or aged cheeses for a truly exceptional experience.
