From the limestone-rich hillside vineyards of Crete, the Douloufakis “Aspros Lagos” Vidiano Barrel 2024 presents a masterful single-variety interpretation of the island’s ancient Vidiano grape. Crafted solely from 100 % Vidiano, harvested from high-altitude plots, the must undergoes fermentation and ageing in wood — specifically first- and second-use barriques (40 % acacia, 60 % French oak). In the glass it gleams pale gold with subtle green highlights and releases aromas of white peach, apricot, beeswax, honeydew melon and a gentle hint of vanilla.
The palate is rich yet poised — a vivid interplay of orchard-fruit generosity, vibrant natural acidity and fine mineral drive, culminating in a long, refined finish that evokes Cretan terroir and barrel-nuance in equal measure. Serve at 10-12 °C alongside herb-roasted chicken, grilled sea bass with lemon-rosemary or mild aged goats’ cheese for a memorable Mediterranean experience.
